Professor B.Y. Ma is a leading doctor of Chinese medicine in the UK and Europe and is the Chairman of the Federation of Traditional Chinese Medicine (UK), the Chairman of the Pan-European Federation of Consultants in Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Chairman of Group of World Federation of TCM Associations. He is Visiting Professor of 8 universities in the UK, France and China. He also is a Life Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine.
Professor Ma is originally a Western medical doctor, who graduated from Shanghai Medical University, then learnt and practised Chinese Medicine combined with Western medicine during the period of the Cultural Revolution (1966-76) in China. He gained a second higher degree later from the China Academy of Chinese Medicine (Beijing). He is a full Professor of Shanghai Medical University and a Committee Member of the Academic Experts Board of the Shanghai Chinese Medicine University. Professor Ma came to England invited by Dr Joseph Needham, an acclaimed world-wide scholar, as his collaborator for the medical volume of the large project series "Science and Civilization in China". Professor Ma was elected a Visiting Fellow of Cambridge University and the British Academy during 1985-1993. He has taught English students and practised Chinese Medicine in London since 1995.
Professor Ma has profound knowledge of medical theory, and practical experience for 39 years. His consultancy usually encompasses Western and Chinese medical diagnosis, and patients are treated with acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicines. He has treated thousands of difficult cases, the majority with success. Patients come not only from local areas but also from all parts of England and from the EU, Africa and Japan etc. recommended by previous patients. He is also training postgraduate students, who come from different countries, for levels of a Master degree or PhD. Apart from medical practice, he is an internationally celebrated medical historian with achievements for medical cultural anthropology. Professor Ma has published 10 books and more than 200 articles.

Alicia graduated from Sydney University as a physiotherapist, then studied acupuncture in Hong Kong, Hangzhou, Shanghai and Nanjing. With 28 years of acupuncture experience she has found that many musculo-skeletal disorders, joint problems, etc can be successfully treated with acupuncture when they have not responded to conventional physiotherapy. Alicia is a tutor for acupuncture which included many years for the AACP (Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists). She has trained very many students and now gives CPD lectures. Her article, (co-authored with Professor Ma) "The Safe Use of Difficult and Dangerous Acupoints " has now become a popular reference in acupuncture societies.
